Melbourne Herald Sun 28 November 2009, reports on ECT treatments of 'deeply troubled teenagers' in an attempt to 'cure' their mental illness. Young adults 18-24 were also treated with ECT. The report further recorded more than 270 elderly Victorians over the age of 75 were treated with ECT. These treatments were undertaken in the 2007-2008 year in Victoria.
The Victorian State Government is implementing a new procedure for managing patient waiting lists.
While this will certainly contribute to a reduction in the number of patients on 'waiting lists' it does little in the way of improving or speeding up actual treatment for the patient...

Medicare statistics show that Electroconvulsive Therapy has been used on 55 children aged 4 years or younger in the past year. The statistics recorded 203 treatments overall on children under 14 years of age.
If you think psychosis is only suffered by those with mental illness, think again.
For some people antidepressants and even some other prescription medications can induce a psychosis mimicking psychotic depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
